Sequoia Capital Leads $26M Series A for Gather Virtual HQ Platform
March 11, 2021

Gather, the virtual office platform co-founded by Phillip Wang, raised a $26 million Series A round led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from Index Ventures, YC Continuity, and angel investors including Dylan Field (Figma CEO) and Jeff Weiner (former LinkedIn CEO). The platform had already amassed over 4 million users by leveraging a retro pixel-art aesthetic where users move avatars through virtual spaces.
Founded in May 2020 in direct response to the pandemic's remote work shift, Gather rapidly expanded beyond traditional office use cases into virtual conferences, social gatherings, and even weddings. The company followed up with a $50 million Series B in November 2021 (also led by Sequoia and Index), bringing total funding to $77 million.
