Cosmos Institute Launches AI Lab and Grant Programs with Anthropic Co-Founder Jack Clark

The Cosmos Institute, a nonprofit founded by TJHSST alum Brendan McCord (former Defense Department technologist who established the DoD's first applied AI organization), launched with founding fellows including Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark and economist Tyler Cowen. Its mission is to "cultivate a new generation of technologists and entrepreneurs equipped with deep philosophical thinking to navigate the uncharted territory of our AI age."

Three major initiatives were announced: the Human-Centered AI Lab (HAI Lab) at the University of Oxford, focused on translating philosophical principles into open-source AI systems; the Cosmos Fellowship for researchers at the intersection of AI and philosophy; and Cosmos Ventures, a venture arm led by former DeepMind product lead Jason Zhao and ex-Stripe strategist Alex Komoroske.
